Nanhansansung Mountain

I went and got my hair cut, but it was by a korean so he said it's too short. Even though this is like the longest it's ever been in my life other than one time...but we aren't going to talk about that are we? ;) haha anyways, yeah!

Missionary Selfie

We climbed a mountain over by our mission headquarters. pretty cool. It was called 난한산성(Nanhansansung). A huge wall goes all around the mountain cuz it used to be a fortress. And that took all day! Literally it was way long. But it was fun. :)

Temple

Mother's Day Call (A week late:()

It was way good to talk to all of you today!^^ You guys are still just as cool as before i left. Other than the fact that you're a year older. Unreal. And jace is 5'7. like what the heck. And he's driving now. Blows my mind. So i uploaded a lot of pictures to dropbox. I've started to take a picture of myself every night. Fun fact. Well just everyday. So that's what some of them are. My hair is unreal long at the moment. Haha and the other ones. I told you we went to a cool temple for zone conference so that's what those are. :) Way fun. So yeah! Our week was way good actually. Monday was P-day so we went shopping! Pretty fun! We went to a super nice place in seoul like a half hour away. I only bought one shirt though. but it was fun. Like 10 bucks? Pretty cheap an good lookin. Then i went and got my hair cut, but it was by a korean so he said it's too short. Even though this is like the longest it's ever been in my life other than one time...but we aren't going to talk about that are we? ;) haha anyways, yeah!

Tuesday was fun! We went out and talked to people after lunch then we went down into the subway station to kinda talk a little bit about our lesson and get ready but this lady that i've talked to before came up to us and we talked to her about the restoration. Pretty awesome! She's super cool. Then we had our appointment with 김영희(Kim YoungHee) and another one of her friends. We ran into them on the street. So that was way fun! We taught em about the restoration and stuff and they seemed to like it! Then we went and talked to morea people and yeah! Wednesday we had zone conference! Really good. We talked all about being "qualified" For the work. So that was good! It was through faith hope charity and love. But we climbed a mountain over by our mission headquarters. pretty cool. It was called 난한산성(Nanhansansung). A huge wall goes all around the mountain cuz it used to be a fortress. And that took all day! Literally it was way long. But it was fun. :) Thursday was good! We went and met brother hong. The really old guy. Super sad though. Like he's more crazy now than ever before. so really it's like there isnt anything we can do to help him. So sad. Ah it breaks my heart. Cuz I can't meet him again. Cuz at this point, we aren't helping him we are just taking his money. He's too old. Ah. Anyway, then i interviewed the sister's investigator for baptism!!^^ So that went good! She's a highschool student. Then we had english class which was way cool! Always fun.

Friday the highlights. We went to lunch with our investigator 한용호 (HanYongHo) and the sisters potential 이금자(Lee GeumJaw). She thought that our church was a little weird of course, everyone does haha so HanYongHo taught her that its just misunderstanding and we are a good church just trying to help. Super cool. And he also encouraged her to do the missionary lessons. Like 30/30. Pretty awesome. Then we went and met 류영호(Ryu YoungHo) at his houose. We taught him the 3rd lesson. Christs gospel. Faith, repentance, baptism, holy ghost, and enduring to the end. Super good lesson! He wanted to come to the baptism but couldn't. And yeah! Saturday was fun too. We went and talked to people but the highlight was the baptism. Super awesome. She seemed to have a really good time. So that was good. Also, the other elders had an investigator there so that was fun to meet him. He's way cool. Sunday was fun! We went to church and then had a meal appointment with 이두현 (Lee DooHyun) and his family. They're way cool! They have a son on a mission. He's doin pretty good i think. For the message we were out of time cuz they had somewhere they had to be so they asked elder empey to bear his testimony. :) Pretty cool. Then we talked to people for the rest of the night! highlights of this week! :) haha It was way good to talk to ya. Seems like you guys are doin good. :) Love you!

Love,
Elder Breinholt

May 11, 2014

Haha I'm not sick anymore. I have maybe like some mucous but it's fine now. :) haha. no we don't have a designated place. I am pretty sure the medical care is social here so that's why it's only like 3 dollars for koreans to go. And like 15 to get your wisdom teeth out. Haha anyways, so because of that they have doctors specialized in a lot of stuff like the guy i went to specialized in throat medicine. So he probably did know what he was doing haha. Dang that's awesome! I would love to live with members. They're the coolest haha. Oh the mats have been a little rough lately. Like honestly I haven't slept well in a long time, but it's fine. no worries there. Dang that's way cool. Like the Book of Mormon is true. Way cool that all that stuff is still there. Didn't we go to Citzen Itza when we were there? I don't remember to be honest haha. I love how your tour guides name was lemuel. Too cute. :) Oh of course dad didn't jump! He's a huge wimp! ;) haha okay before i forget. Dad says that jace is 5'7. Like what?! That's not possible. There's no way. Also, he still hasn't emailed me back. But that blew my mind when he told me that. Jeez. Too big. All of a sudden too. Awe, yeah people here will do that too. They'll just be like oh follow me! So cute. I do like elder empey a lot. He is a hard worker and we are getting stuff done! Oh haha we called the bishop and sang him happy birthday. It was cute. :) Yeah like it's super humid here in the summer. It rains a ton. Like they have monsoon or typhoon (whatever the difference is, not too sure haha) season here for 2 months so it's super humid. I told dad that I want to call on monday. So i was super confused cuz i couldn't stay on the computer any longer so then i just decided to call this morning. Did you get the message i left you? haha yeah alynn is gonna appreciate ya. ;) Yeah I'm trying to be the latter missionary. I hope that's me! I have a long ways to go. There's always more that we can do right? I think i'm figuring it out. Our focus this month is consecration and we got a talk by Tad R. Callister that's super good. So, we'll see. I am gonna try!

Okay so since I didn't get to call ya, i'm just gonna give you a quick rundown of our week. Not too much time today, we have to go shopping! haha anyways. last monday we went over to 목동 (MokDong) the area right next to us and played monopoly. Super fun. Then we had a 식사 (SheekSaw or Meal appointment) with a member that was super fun! All six of us missionaries were there. Super fun. Haha we had some delicious stuff called 감자탕 (KamJa Tahng). 감자 is potato and 탕 is like soup. So yeah. it's pretty good! Then we went out and talked to people of course! Tuesday was good! We went to service but it was closed so we went to mcdonalds and had lunch of course. It's a must do right? haha so anyways, then me and elder nemelka had to go on a split because he found an investigator in our area and wanted to refer him to us. so we met him. he's super cool! His name is 최인식 (Chwey InSheek). He's like 60 years old and has english interest, but he also seems like he has gospel interest. He can tell that the church has blessed us as young people, so hopefully something sparks in him. We talked about leaders that we respect. Kinda cool! Then we made our way home and called people. We called 3 people and 2 of them wanted to meet that day and one of them wants to meet this week! Super cool! haha so we went and ran to meet one of them. We had dinner with him and got a shake. He was all english i think... Like the missionaries that first met him didn't do a good job of setting up like our purpose...so he didn't know. He was way cool though. He's like an animator for a tv show that's coming out this year and he lived in america for like 7 years. Then we went and met another guy. he's a little crazy, but he's funny. he thought that korea is losing hope and wanted us to pray for korea. suepr funny. He said there is a darkness over korea. haha but anyway, that was tuesday.

Wednesday we ended our split. Then we went and met 류영호 (Ryu YoungHo) and had a lesson with him! We talked about baptism with him and read 2 Nephi 31! he wants to be baptized! So that's awesome! He just needs to get a better idea and testimony. hopefully we can get him to that point. Then we came home and worked on our less active people. Haha then we had pancakes and talked to people! Thursday was super good! We went to the church and had pizza school as a zone. This might blow some of the older missionaries out in the world, but our zone has 34 missionaries. Crazy. then we had zone training meeting which was good! We talked all about consecration! Which is what i've been focusing on lately so that was super good. I feel like i've learned a lot since i started. so yeah! Then we went out and talked to people! Pretty fun. Then at english class i taught the beginning adult class but only our investigator 한용호 came so basically i just had a lesson with him. way cool. we talked about what truth is. And obviously it's different for every person. Especially when it comes to religion. Still not entirely sure on what my conclusion was. ah. but anyway, the church is true guys. Then yeah! Friday we had weekly planning! That was good! hopefully we'll reach the goals we set. I mean, we will reach those goals. haha then we went out and talked to people. we ran into a less active that wanted to meet so that was cool! Then we had pancakes again..haha anyway, then we went out and tried to talk to more people. then we had our weekly correlation meeting with 변창기 (Byun ChangGee). Like i'm sorry, but korean looks so terrible when i put it in english letters. Haha. so yeah. that was fun!

Saturday was good too! We went out and visited some less actives, but they weren't home of course. But it was a suepr cool part of our area. I'd never been there before. It felt like i was back in america. Way cool. It was a huge apartment complex area. anyways. We hiked a mountain too. haha it was actually decently hot. But on our way up we ran into a catholic guy who started singing a hymn to us. Beautiful. Haha it was way funny. Then we talked to a super stylish guy as we were sweating super bad cuz we had just hiked a mountain haha. so that was fun. Then we met the less active member. He doesn't really want to come back to church...so that was kinda too bad. kinda a waste of time. but it's okay. then at night we were on our way home and we ran into a guy who comes to english class every once ina while and a less active member's son! That was way awesome! They're super nice! It was a good day for missionary work. Lovin it. I've started to really get accustomed to it. I'm liking it a lot now. So that's good. It causes a little more stress actually, but it's good stress^^. sunday was good too! We got up and went to church which was fun! 이정배(Lee JungBae), my friend richard lee from BYU, he came to our church cuz he's on the high council and gave a talk! So that was suepr good to see him! He talked about our lunch appointment in it. way funny. Also, an american family came to our ward! Way cool. They were from Orem. And the daughter had just got back from her mission in Taejon Korea. Anyway, then we came home, had lunch, language study, made some calls and had dinner. Then we went out and talked to people but it started to rain and i didn't have an umbrella so we ran home and grabbed one. it was raining way hard. The hardest it's rained since i've been here. it was intense. but it was way fun. We were out in it trying to talk to people so that we could reach our goal. haha super fun. We ran into the bishop while we were doin it and he's like hey come over to my house, like get out of the rain! so we went over there and had some delicious food. it was fun. He's the man. 순용문 감독님 (Son YongMoon KamDokNeem) 감독님 means bishop. haha so anyways. that was fun. Then we were still a little short of our goal so we kept talking to people till we got it. Walked in the door right at 9:30. so close. haha way ool. but yeah! That was our week! Awesome! I can't wait to talk to you guys next week! It's gonna be awesome! I love your guts!

Love,
Elder Breinholt^^

MAY 4th, 2014

Oh dang! I'm way jealous of Cancun! Looks like you guys had tons of fun! Yeah I saw the ones with you and the turtle. Too cool. :) Haha how do you guys always happen to run into koreans? Pretty cool though. Eh he's not a greenie he's been in korea for 3 months now, so he just finished being trained. His name is Elder Empey and he is from Idaho. Near Idaho falls i think. haha he's a way cool guy. He came straight out of highschool so he's a youngin. But it's fun. District leader is the same as always. Nothing too groundbreaking. They just told me i was district leader, nothing else needed haha. but it's cool. It's been fun. Dang that Explor place sounds way cool! ATV's and ziplining? Like I don't think it gets funner than that. Oooh gotta love those book of mormon guides. :) haha that'll actually be way cool. Dad seems pretty excited about it! So weird that Jace is starting a job. He'll be the cutest little worker ever. haha he's cool. Also, he still hasn't emailed me back, so get on him for that. It's been like a month now the little bumb. Oh!! Before I forget Happy birthday on saturday mom!!^^ I hope it's a good one! You're gettin up there! You're now what like 28 right? Not bad. You actually have the same birthday as our bishop over here. :) haha so that's cool!

Monday! Like you guys might remember i went down to my greenie area, 평택 for p-day last week and got to see 박희정 (Pak HeeJung) and the other 평택 missionaries. I hope she put the pictures on facebook. Look for em. haha anyways, that was the bomb. Then we went to our bishops house for one last meal together. That was delicious! Bulgogi, mmm. so good. Ah. so we talked all about missionary work and he gave us a list of the people who have nonmember family members. so we're gonna go try and visit them and make them investigators. :) haha so hopefully that will be good! Tuesday we had service for one last time with Elder Warnick. It was really sad to see him go actually. I really liked serving with Elder Warnick. We did a lot of good work here in little flower valley korea. That's what 화곡 means i think haha. But service was way fun! Then we had to go over to the 목동 elders house to grab some stuff that people left on splits and stuff. haha so that was fun too. i like them. Actually, now they have more elders there and one of the new guys is one of the favorite people in the mission. I don't  think that sentence made sense, but i hope you know what i meant. haha anyway, then we went out and talked to people and had dinner with 오형석 our england friend for one last time with elder Warnick. that was good. We got stuff called 해장국 or HayJang Gook. It's like soup made out of the pig spine meat. haha it's good. but yeah. I think i've told you about it before. then we had our lesson with 한용호, hey actually. Do you guys even want me to type anything in korean? Cuz i know dad says he just skips over it haha. but like if you want me just to konglish everything that's fine. so anyway he asked us tons of questions about the plan of salvation like the three kingdoms and what happens to our body. it was good. like way good. he's gotta get baptized!! Ah. i hope that he does. but yeah.

Wednesday we had transfers! That was sad! But luckily the place that our whole mission meets for transfers is like a 15 minute subway ride from our house so it wasn't bad at all. Way nice. That's one perk about this area. Way close to everything. We got the coolest korean ever in our house though. His name is 임종우 (Leem JongOo) Don't know how to put it in english haha. sorry. but anyway, he's the new zone leader. And elder empey of course. but then we had like a little opening discussion on things we wanna do together and that was good. Then we went out and talked to people then we went to 오목교역 which means nothing to you. But we went there and had a district activity. It was way fun! We talked to tons of people and got burger king after to kind of open up our new district. So we had that fun time! Then on Thursday we walked around and tried to talk to people which was fun. I actually had a super bad cough so that kinda slowed us down a little bit. but yeah it's fine haha. then we went and got dinner. Oh! Before dinner we saw some like 15 year old girls buy some cigarettes from a dude. He's like 60 years old so he doesn't really know what he's doing and they told him that they were like 20 or something and he gave them cigarettes! haha i was pretty amazed. It really would shock you how many people smoke here. but it's only like 2000 won for 1 pack. so that's a big contributor i think. and i heard in military service you get a longer break if you smoke. so that's a big problem we run into here is smoking. sadly. then we had english class! Sadly i wasn't able to teach the junior high class. we switched. I taught the like beginning adult class. so still fun, but not nearly as fun. We don't sing frozen every week. :(  but our investigator came so that was good. Friday we did the normal thing and i went to the doctor for my cough. He just said it was like inflammation. I think it was the terrible air here mixed with talking all the time. So maybe it was a good thing. ;) We gave the doctor a restoration pamphlet! So it was way good! Haha the doctor here is a joke though. He seriously looked at my throat for like 5 seconds, prescribed me some drugs which the majority of them are vitamin c i'm pretty sure haha. way funny. so anyway, then we had weekly planning so that was good. Then we went out and talked to people until our weekly correlation meeting! Our ward mission leader is pumped up again. So we are makin a big push with these new missionaries for member missionary work. Way good.

Saturday was good! Nothing too special though sadly. We went and visited a less active member who of course had moved haha. Then we went and talked to people more and we talked to a guy who wanted us to introduce him to rich people in our church so that they could invest in his company haha. such a joke. but it was cool. Then we tried to go home for dinner but a crazy lady stopped us and talked at us for like 10 minutes before we were finally able to get away. i don't know why missionaries attract that. haha it's way funny. i love it. we kept saying we had to go but she just kept on talking about how the government doesn't take good enough care of her and she needs her teeth fixed! Ah! Haha i was pretty scared. Sunday was way good! Elder Empey Elder Lim, and Sister ward all gave super good welcome talks. in fact we got a 식사 out of it so that was good. We tlaked all about missionary work! It was awesome! Our ward seemed to have a different feel yesterday for whatever reason, felt more alive so that's good. 변창기 our ward mission leader blessed his baby. that was super cute. then we went out and talked to people all night! haha it was a little hard because of fast sunday, but it was still good! And that was our week! It was a good one! I'm excited for these next few weeks with Elder Empey! I'm going to pass my year mark with him probably! So that'll be exciting. Can't believe it. I'm an old missionary! But anyway, lets not worry about that. I still have so much left to do! Sounds like you guys are having a great start to summer! It's still kinda cold here. Like yesterday I wore my coat. Well, i should have anyway haha. but yeah! I want it to be warm. I'm ready. Love you guys. :)

Love,
Elder Breinholt

The End of Elder Breinholt and Warnick

The End of Elder Breinholt and Warnick

Oh hello my mother. :) haha thanks for being the best and actually taking the time to email me. Not like jace. But anyways, I really liked the picture you sent. Kenah is gonna make my little heart melt. That was seriously the cutest thing ever. Ah. I love her. Um actually about the baptisms you'll hear all about some good stuff from this week. :) No baptismal dates but some serious good looking prospects. Also, if you're wondering why I am emailing so late today it's because we went down to 평택 so that i could see one of the members. So keep an eye out for those pictures on facebook. And try to put em on the blog too! That's why I have them put em on there. Because i am forgetful and they take pictures and put em on there. So anyways, Yeah we are trying to be positive. It's lookin good. We got our transfer calls friday night and found out that I am staying and my new companion will be Elder Empey. He's been in country for 3 months now. So it'll be a lot of fun. I'll learn a lot. Elder Warnick is going to a place called 수지 (SooJee). Kinda sad that it's over. We had a lot of fun and got a lot of stuff done. I like to think so anyway, especially for opening an area. Anyways, I'm way jealous of you mom! Why are you going to Cancun with dad? Does he have to go there for business or something? I'm sure that kenah did way good in her recital. :) Haha actually i like how both you and dad's emails were on the same one. I can see what's important to both of you. To mom it's the house, and Kenah. And to dad it's BYU and Kenah. Too cute. Haha But i like it that way. It was a good email. Thank you. :)

Okay! So monday! We went to our beloved meat buffet. So good. Haha it really isn't that good the environment is what's so cool. Then we came home and for the rest of the night hit the streets! Honestly it's what we've done way too much. haha it's a good time, it just gets old. Like this week I think i passed like 10 people that I know i've seen a ton before. Like they look familiar. That's how much it happened haha. So that was fun. Tuesday we had service and that was way fun. We cleaned a lady's house cuz she's way too old to do it. It was precious haha she was like 88 and bedridden. so sad. ah. so we cleaned her like window thing. don't really know what to call it. Her window. and then we were done. way easy. Then we went to lunch and made our way over to 영등포 (YoungDeungPo) so that elder Warnick could do passoff with the AP's. I don't know if i've ever talked about passoff, but it is what we do to help us stay focused on like missionary lessons and learn the language. Super useful. There were a lot of missionaries there passing off so i got to talk to them. Way fun. Then we came home and had our lesson with 한용호. He's doin way good. He had tons of questions for us. like all we did was answer his questions it was perfect. Honestly like this is where the whole baptism thing comes in. So we were texting him later and he said that through reading the book of mormon his questions have started to go away and he's found happiness through it. So good. So he's makin tons of progress. We really wanna meet his wife and start to get in with the fam, but we'll see how that goes. Then one of our friends, member who is sorta less active came and we talked to him. I call him Ryan Lee. Haha he's the best. I gave him that name. but yeah. anyways!

Wednesday was good too. we studied and our friend 오형석, our member who is going to London on his mission, was back to study with us so that was a good time. He hasn't come cuz he's just been too busy with moving and preparing to go on a mission. but he got his visa approved! so he's goin! anyway, then we had district meeting which was way good! I always love Elder Nemelka's trainings haha. we got to watch the Herman video on chastity which was super funny. It's just a super awkward lesson. If you don't know what i'm talking about i suggest you watch it. We watched it to learn how to better teach for understanding. Then we tried to visit a less active, but turns out his house got destroyed by Hyundai. It's becoming their latest and greatest high class apartments. haha gotta love it. So when you see the picture of the big field that i put on dropbox, you'll understand. then we walked around and were waiting at a crosswalk were another person comes up to us, i swear we've been so blessed here. but he came up to us and he lived in utah and knows a bunch of mormons. one of his sons friends is serving a mission. so that was awesome. Thursday we got up then we went to hike a mountain with our friend 류영호! that was a ton of fun! It took us five hours! It is the biggest mountain in our mission! And we went all the way to the top. ah man. it was a way good time. good view. but we shared a scripture, mosaiah 3:19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the holy spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father. So we talked to him about the atonement and he's like so the only way to become clean is through baptism huh? And we were like yeah that's right! He's like oh okay. So we were like well is that something that you would want? and he said yeah i think so, so we are going to get him with a date here soon too hopefully. Ah that would be so good. But anyway, then we came home and showered, then had english class. only two members came to our class. haha way sad. But! Two of our investigators came to the adult one. 한용호 and 유기선. So that was awesome. Hey so I'm not sure how clear i've been. So our english class, members do come too. but it is supposed to be used as a finding tool. that members can invite people too. So me and elder warnick teach the like junior high class. And there are adult beginning and advanced classes as well. so hope that clears things up. anyway, that was thursday!

Friday! We got up and went over to 영등포 for a training to our whole mission by sister burton. The relief society president! It was really good! She's way nice. Plus her and her husband were the last mission president in the Seoul West mission before they shut it down in 2010. So that was fun. But they just talked about how we need to remember! Remember what it means to be a disciple of jesus christ and don't ever lose that image. So thatw as good. Then we went to Costco for lunch. Way delicious. Ah man i love that place. haha i had a hot dog and a shake. okay. something way gross. koreans they get the onions, ya know like the ones you put on your hot dog. They're a little different here, they are like legit just sliced onions. but they take them and they put mustard on them sometimes ketchup or relish and mix it up and eat it. just like that. bleh i almost threw up haha. so gross. but ya know, if they like it, that's fine. haha but then we came home and did weekly planning and had our weekly correlation meeting which was good! We got our tranfer calls too like i talked about. so that was uber stressful. ah man. Oh hey I also am district leader. so that'll be fun. i get to give trainings on wednesdays! but my first one isn't for like 2 weeks so thats nice.

Saturday was good! We got up and went for Elder Warnick's last time to the 삼계탕 place that our members own. Way good. It's the whole chicken in a soup thing. pretty tasty. i think i've told ya about it. then we had an adventure in an area we don't spend too much time in called 방화 (BangHwa) it's awesome! It's just like a lot less city feel and a lot of apartments. we talked to tons of people up threre. we also saw the airport that's in our area. Gimpo airport. then we came home had dinner then went to another thing by Linda K. Burton. It was way good! President Ringwood came and gave a really good talk. He talked about how in the work of salvation there are 5 parts. And the first one is member missionary work. He said sure missionaries can find future leaders of the church here in korea, but it will happen much more quickly and much more effectively if the members and missionaries are working together. Then he had all the missionaries stand up which was like half of the people there, way powerful. Then he had us sing called to serve! Unreal. haha it was way good. And he said look at all of these missionaries, our Heavenly Father wants you to be so successful in member missionary work he sent you these missionaries! When our new transfer starts we will have at least 6 missionaries in each area and some will have 8. Awesome. We have close to if not over 200. So that was way good. Sunday we went to church which was good! Elder Warnick, Wedam, and Sister Kang all gave their goodbye talks. So sad that 3 people are leaving. ah. but they did way good. then we came home and had language study, then went out and talked to people until dinner then went out and talked to more people. We talked to a guy who is literally fluent at english. it was unreal. And he only lived in america for like 2 years. way nice guy. and it was like 10 years ago! Which is what's so cool. so yeah! That was our week! Tryin to do some good missionary work here in Seoul, Korea. :) I really am tryin, it's hard somedays, but it's good. ah i miss you guys. I'm so grateful for your email. And janae emailed me this week so that was awesome!:) Haha I hope you guys have a great week. :)

Love,
Elder Breinholt
